The brand Infiniti was created around the same time as the Lexus and Acura premium brands developed by Japanese rivals, Toyota and Honda. In 1989, the introduction of the Infiniti brand in the United States was intended to strengthen Nissan's premium segment. The first two models of the Infiniti brand were the Q45 and the M30. In 1990, the 2-door M30 was introduced. Following the introduction of Acura Legend and then Lexus GS, Infiniti also began manufacturing Japanese luxury limousines in North America. The first such model was the Infiniti J30.
